On September 7, 2017 Equifax Inc. announced a cybersecurity breach potentially impacting approximately 143 million U.S. consumers. You or a family member may have been affected by this. Here's what you can do now to help protect your personal information from being misused.

  • Go to to check whether you are one of the 143 million people whose data may have been compromised

  • If you have a PPCU Secure Checking account, make sure you enroll in our free Identity Theft Protection service – called IDProtect – by calling us for a registration Access Code, then going to and clicking on “Not Registered Yet” button. If you don’t have a Secure Checking account, open one now to protect yourself and your family members with our IDProtect service.

  • Check your credit reports – free – by visiting

  • Check your online accounts for any unusual activity

  • Place text/email alerts on all of your accounts

  • Consider placing a credit freeze or fraud alert on your files

  • Reset account passwords, PIN codes and other log-in credentials on financial accounts that may be vulnerable

  • Avoid spearphishing – do not click on any email or text notifications regarding the security of your accounts since these messages may expose you to ID theft as well. Instead, access your accounts directly from the company site or call the company for information.
